The Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time

Thank you Mark Haddon for writing this wonderful novel.

Due to the CLP examinations, I have not been reading any other books besides statutes, orders, cases and lecture notes.

So right after the exams, I knew I needed to do something: start reading non-CLP- related books! =)

Therefore 1 day after the exams, after getting my Myanmar visa done, in the company of Chris and Jia Xin, I went to Kinokuniya and got myself this book....

"The Curious Incident" is simply brilliant.

Mark Haddon gave "Christopher Boone" such a convincing voice.
He's simple, logical and honest and he is intelligent.

Of Black Days and Yellow objects.
Of Good Days and Red food.
Of no talking to strangers.
Of counting cows and cars.
Of the mysterious death of Wellington.

I enjoyed every single line in the book.
Except the Appendix at the end which I simply couldn't make sense of or relate to. =p

So please, get a copy of this, and be fascinated by the simple things that make "Christopher" my favourite protagonist of all times!

Sometimes when we touch...

It was 9th January 2009.
A Saturday.
Like my usual Saturdays, this was also an interesting one.

The only difference was, my heart was opened and touched by the Special Children in Rumah Sayangku.

I woke up at 6.30am, tried my best to wake lil'bro up (not without difficulties). =p
Thank goodness he was cooperative. )He had earlier promised to join me volunteering.

We took a detour to Cheras to collect the banner.

The journey to Kuala Langat was quite 'interesting' since I relied 100 per cent on my sense of direction... the GPS was quite 'helpful' in repeatedly showing me the wrong way.

A huge and warm party was going on when we reached.
The volunteers were energetic, the kids, overjoyed!

We painted faces, eggs, made kites, photo frames...
They danced, sang, performed whole-heartedly...
They gave their best. =)

And I really appreciate every one of them.
Their limitations have brought them even closer to their parents, their loved ones.

Physical, Inherent imperfections have made them inspirations to an ordinary person like me.

Like the bird I painted on Ikmal's face, these special children should fly freely in the sky, that is filled with hope and love. And faith.

Avatar

I was not at all excited about this movie.
I thought it was just another animation adopted from some comic.
Well, I was ignorant and clearly, wrong. =p

The storyline takes us through the adventure of Jake Sully...
In real life, Jake is just a disabled guy. Nobody ever expects him to be capable or anywhere near his able twin. But the 'diplomatic' ploy with the Na'vis opened the door for Jake to become a real warrior, a conqueror, a true hero.

He finds himself valued and appreciated in Pandora.

This movie is more than just Graphics and Animation.
It reminds us of how selfish human beings are.
The wealth we derive at the expense of the riches of nature.

Reminds me of Colours of The Wind--my favorite theme song from Pocahontas. =)

Letting my better sense prevail

In times like this, there is no better path besides the one that I'm taking.
To stand tall and strong.
Sticking to my decision.
Standing by wisdom.
And lead the train of life through greater adventures, with an open mind.
And a brave heart.

What do you do when you know it's not working?

Do you let go?
Move on without a word?
Hold on?
Keep going even though you know you're heading nowhere?

Whatever you do, choose the path which cherishes the most important thing that you have, your happiness. =)

So, when you're at a bottleneck and when you're in doubt, LOVE YOURSELF FIRST.
That's the least that you can do to move on and out from a relationship which undervalues you.

So I quote a wise friend,'Cherish Yourself'.

*peace* =)

High Flight - an Airman's Ecstacy

Came across this beautifully written sonnet by

an Anglo-American aviator and poet who died as a result of a mid-air collision over Lincolnshire during World War II.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

John Gillespie Magee (1922 - 1941)
